Octagonal Dragon Pillars

The pair of ‘dragon pillars’ set in front of the doorway to Sanchuan Altar symbolize the vigorous spirits at work at Nankunshen.

Under trained artist hands, raw bluestone was shaped into images that now infuse these architectural supports with their power. Relief carvings intertwine naturally with the natural column while providing essential physical support to the temple roof.
