Two banyan trees flank either side of Long Hou Well behind Daitian Temple. The dense, verdant canopy of the two appears as a rainbow protecting the precious waters below. The banyan to the left resembles a coiled dragon, while that to the right appears as a crouching tiger. Collectively, these banyans were known as the ‘Dragon & Tiger Tree’ – an important landmark for fishermen returning from the sea. ‘Spotting the Dragon & Tiger’ marked the end of a safe journey home.
