Ever since their island-wide inspection tour of 1683, the Five Lords have carried out their duties based on this placard. Through it, the Lords deliver their commands. With it, they are able to pacify all, bring peace to the people and scatter the forces of darkness. Thus, through the years, many branch temples have been established and the Five Lords have been invited to many branches or family temples to receive the prayers of adherents. However, when the idols leave the temple, replacements remain as ‘inspection idols’ and as evidence of the Five Lord’s continuing authority at Nankunshen (There are also ‘inspection idols’ permanently emplaced at Tianhou Temple in Qiwei, Kaohsiung County - installed during the Grand Inspection Tour of 1983).
